The National League named Alex Wood of the Dodgers their pitcher of the month for May and bestowed rookie of the month honors upon Cody Bellinger.
Wood has a current 23 1⁄3 scoreless innings streak and was also named True Blue LA’s Dodgers pitcher of the month.
Wood was awarded the win in all five of his May starts, posting a 1.27 ERA while allowing only 22 hits in his 28 1⁄3 innings. The southpaw also struck out 41 of the 112 batters he faced for an astounding 36.6% strikeout rate.
Wood is the first Dodgers not named Kershaw to win this award since Zack Greinke did for August 2013.
Bellinger walloped nine home runs in May and drove in 27 runs while posting a batting line of .245/.314/.566/.880. The 27 RBI are the most in a month by a Dodgers since September/October 2007, when James Loney plated 32 teammates.
The left-handed swinger now shares the franchise record for home runs in a month by a rookie with Joc Pederson who did it two years ago in May and Loney who lofted his longballs in September (and October) 2007.
The last Dodgers NL rookie of the month was Corey Seager last June.
