LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers activated reliever Luis Avilan from the disabled list before Friday’s series opener against the Reds, and placed reliever Sergio Romo on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain.
Avilan missed 15 with left triceps soreness, having last pitched for the Dodgers on May 23. The left-hander pitched in two games for Triple-A Oklahoma City on a minor league rehab assignment on Sunday and Tuesday, allowing two runs in two innings, with three strikeouts and a walk.
On the season, Availan has a 3.00 ERA in 23 games, with 20 strikeouts and eight walks in 15 innings. Left-handed batters are just 5-for-33 against Avilan this season with 15 strikeouts and four walks, hitting .152/.243/.212.
Romo had a 6.41 ERA in 24 games, with 23 strikeouts and nine walks in 19⅔ innings, including five home runs allowed. The DL move was made retroactive to Thursday.
Romo is the 22nd different Dodgers player to be placed on the disabled list in 2017.
