Dodgers try to keep Saturday streak alive

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Los Angeles Dodgers Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers will need to win the final two games against the Padres this weekend to keep their streak of unbeaten series alive. Racking up wins on the weekend has been a hallmark of this season for the Dodgers, especially on Saturdays.

The Dodgers are unbeaten in their last 18 series, winning 15 and splitting three during that span. Their last series loss came June 5-7, dropping two of three against Washington.

Heading into the middle game against San Diego, the Dodgers take an 11-game Saturday winning streak. Their last Saturday loss came on May 20 against the Marlins, when the Dodgers fell behind 10-0 before rallying for six runs.

On Saturdays, the Dodgers are 15-3 on the season, their best mark of any day of the week, outscoring opponents 110-62 along the way. There have been some memorable Saturday contests:

Cody Bellinger has played in 15 Saturday games, and hit nine home runs. He also hit for the cycle on a Saturday — July 15 in Miami — and has driven in 21 runs while scoring 15, hitting .356 while slugging a robust .898.

Chris Taylor has five home runs, three doubles, two triples, 14 runs scored and 17 RBI on Saturdays this season, slugging .633.

Corey Seager has reached base in his last 11 Saturday games, including at least one hit in his last eight such games. He’s hitting .339/.453/.645 on Saturdays with four home runs, seven doubles, and 13 walks, scoring 14 runs while driving in 11.

The weekend as a whole has been quite productive for the Dodgers. Even with the series opening defeat to the Padres the club is 15-4 on Fridays, and 13-4 on Sundays. That’s a 43-11 mark (.796) on the weekend, compared to 38-23 (.623) mark during the week.

Maybe the 2017 season film can be scored by Loverboy.
