The Dodgers swept the Pirates from May 8-10 at Dodger Stadium, and look for more success against Pittsburgh, this time at PNC Park, concluding their road trip with a four-game series. Here is a look at the pitching matchups.
Monday, 4:05 p.m. PT (SportsNet LA)
Alex Wood, with his 2.30 ERA in 117⅓ innings, needs at least 5⅔ innings in the series opener to qualify for the leaderboard, at least for a day, in the Dodgers’ 122nd game of the season. Among major league starters with at least 100 innings, Wood trails only teammate Clayton Kershaw (2.04) and Max Scherzer (2.25).
Gerrit Cole has lasted at least six innings in eight straight starts and in 11 of his last 12 outings, posting a 3.26 ERA since June 13, with 75 strikeouts and 25 walks in 77⅓ innings.
Tuesday, 4:05 p.m. (SportsNet LA, KTLA)
This would have been the spot for Yu Darvish but he is getting skipped here, on the disabled list with lower back tightness. Instead, Brock Stewart is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make this spot start, which would be Stewart’s third start of the season.
Jameson Taillon missed a month earlier in the season to have surgery for testicular cancer, and most importantly is healthy now. His second-half ERA is 8.13 in seven starts, but the bulk of that damage came in a disastrous two-start stretch that saw him allow 18 runs in 6⅔ innings.
The six remaining Tuesday regular season games for the Dodgers will all be simulcast on KTLA.
Wednesday, 4:05 p.m. (SportsNet LA)
Opposing batters in August against Rich Hill are hitting .270/.343/.556 with five home runs -- all solo shots — in three starts. Hill during that stretch also has 22 strikeouts and seven walks in his 16 innings this month.
Trevor Williams allowed eight runs in three innings in his last time out, his shortest start since also allowing eight runs in three innings at Dodger Stadium on May 8.
Thursday, 1:05 p.m. (SportsNet LA)
Hyun-jin Ryu is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA in three career starts against the Pirates, though he hasn’t faced them since 2014. This will be Ryu’s fifth start on four days rest in 2017 — his other 15 starts have come with at least five days rest — and in those games he has a 4.76 ERA, with 19 strikeouts and four walks in 22⅔ frames.
Since the beginning of July, Chad Kuhl has a 3.35 ERA in nine starts, with 43 strikeouts and 24 walks in 51 innings. He took the loss in Los Angeles on May 10, allowing four runs in five innings.
