Jimmy Nelson and Brewers win 3-2 and take the series

Dodgers lose their first series since the first week of June

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES —- Hopefully not all things come to end when it comes to this Dodger team but today their unbeaten streak in series ended as the Brewers won 3-2 at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers had not lost a series since losing to the Washington Nationals in early June.

The Dodgers had the tying and winning runs on base but this time Brewer closer Corey Knebel struck out pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer to end the game.

The Brewers pitchers did a great job this series keeping the Dodger bats quiet and Jimmy Nelson had a second great start against the Dodgers.

Nelson had a no-hitter going until pinch-hitter Chase Utley hit a one-out single in the sixth. With two out, Corey Seager drove in the Dodgers’ first run on a single to center.

Justin Turner came up and hit a fly ball to short right field, Domingo Santana lost it in the bright high sky and it fell behind him, giving Turner a double and an RBI.

Nelson was taken out at that point and would end up pitching 6⅔ innings, giving up two runs, four hits and two walks. Nelson struck out six.

The Brewers scored in the first inning, after Eric Sogard led off with a walk, he went to third on a Neil Walker single. Travis Shaw hit a grounder to Corey Seager who misplayed it and Sogard scored. The run likely would have scored even if the ball was fielded cleanly as it might have been hit it too slowly for a double play.

The Brewers added two runs in the third, Hernán Pérez homered for one and later, Domingo Santana singled in the third run.

As for the Dodgers pitchers, Yu Darvish returned from the disabled list an pitched five innings, he gave up all three runs, six hits and walked three. Darvish struck out seven.

The Dodger relievers kept the team in the game but at least on this day, the bats could not come to the rescue.
