Dodgers Week 21: Three whole losses

The Dodgers have spent the better part of three months winning at an improbable rate, so a week like this was bound to happen at some point.

In a week that saw them pitch a near perfect game and still somehow lose, the Dodgers had their first week with more than two losses since May 29-June 4.

That included a series loss to the Brewers over the weekend, the club’s first series loss in nearly 12 weeks. The result was a 4-3 week, which as a reminder to how ridiculous this 2017 season has been, is a 93-win pace over the course of a full season.

For some perspective, the Dodgers are 6-4 in their last 10 games, their worst 10-game stretch since June 4-15 (also 6-4).

Batter of the week

Yasiel Puig had a productive week, going 10-for-24 (.417) with four walks and three doubles. He also homered twice, including the game-winner in the 12th inning on Monday in Pittsburgh.

Pitcher of the week

In the easiest call of the year, the Dodgers pitcher of the week last week was one who lost. Rich Hill pitched the game of his life on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, taking a perfect game into the ninth and no-hitter into the 10th, only to lose on a walk-off home run. Despite the ending, that game will be remembered fondly for years to come.

The week ahead

The Dodgers run the Scott Hairston gauntlet, with road games against divisional foes. After Monday’s off day, they play the Diamondbacks for three games in Phoenix, followed by four games in three days against the Padres, including a Saturday doubleheader in San Diego.

The weekend rotation is TBD (this is a best guess), with the returns of both Clayton Kershaw (Friday) and Alex Wood looming.
