Yu Darvish impresses as Dodgers roll past Mets

All eyes were on Yu Darvish Friday night as he took the mound for his first start since being acquired by the Dodgers. The righty didn’t disappoint with seven shutout innings as the Dodgers rolled past the Mets in a 6-0 win.

The Dodgers are now 77-32 on the season, winning 42 of the last 49 games.

Darvish allowed only three hits while striking out 10 and walking only one on 99 pitches. This was the third time this season Darvish struck out 10 in seven scoreless, his first since June 23.

The only hiccup of the night came in the first inning when Darvish allowed two of the first three batters to reach. The inning would come to an end when the Dodger right-hander snagged a line drive off the bat of Curtis Granderson to snuff out the rally.

The offense jumped on Mets’ starter Jacob deGrom early with a Chris Taylor solo homer to leadoff the game and a Yasiel Puig solo blast in the second. Taylor continues to mash in the leadoff spot and is now hitting .364 (52-for-143) on the road.

Puig’s long ball was his career-high 20th homer of the year with 13 coming while hitting eighth in the lineup.

Chase Utley made sure to make his presence known with a two-run homer in the sixth. The home crowd at Citi Field was not pleased as they watched Utley circle the bases.

The Dodgers have now hit 18 homers in five games against the Mets in 2017, hitting at least three in each of those games.

Seager Smooth

Corey Seager smacked two doubles and a single on the night, giving him 29 doubles on the year. With one more double-bagger, Seager would become just the second Dodger (Pete Reiser, 1941-42) ever to have two 30-double seasons by age 23 after he hit 40 in 2016.

The Dodger shortstop also walked for the 55th time, setting a new career high.

The Dodgers and Mets will play at 1:05 pm PT Saturday with Rich Hill (8-4, 3.35) taking the ball against Seth Lugo (5-3, 4.53).
