Tulsa defeated Midland 5-3 and took a 1-0 lead in the Texas League Championship Series.

Player of the day

Drew Jackson drove in two with his second inning triple and he later scored. In the sixth inning, Jackson’s fielder’s choice drove in a key insurance run.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers took a nine hour bus ride to Midland on Monday and then went on to defeat the RockHounds (Athletics) 5-3 on Tuesday night.

The win gave the Drillers the 1-0 series lead and should give them some momentum when they face former Dodger prospect right-handed pitcher Grant Holmes tonight.

Mitch White started and pitched five innings. White gave up six hits, three runs and walked two. White struck out three.

The Drillers got great relief work, Shea Spitzbarth, Corey Copping and Daniel Corcino combined to pitch the last four innings. Together, they gave up two hits and two walks while striking out six.

At the plate, it was the second inning that gave the Drillers all the runs they needed. Trailing 1-0, Blake Gailen walked and Erick Mejia singled to put two on with no outs. Drew Jackson tripled in those two runners to get the lead.

Two outs later, Errol Robinson singled in Jackson and Yusniel Diaz tripled in Robinson to make it 4-1.

In the sixth inning, the Drillers lead was down to one. Kyle Garlick doubled and move to third on a ground out. Erick Mejia walked and Jackson grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Garlick and making it 5-3, which turned out to be the final score.
