The home stretch is here as the Dodgers will once again look to erase nearly three decades of frustration of not holding the Commissioner’s Trophy over their heads in victory at the conclusion the World Series.
September has been a long month for the Dodgers who just left an 11-game losing streak in the rearview mirror. But there are only 16 games left before the volume gets cranked up to 11 when the stakes get high and everything is on the line.
The return to Nationals Park this weekend brings to mind the last time the Dodgers popped the bubbly to celebrate after giving their all in a Game 5 victory in the NLDS. Kenley Jansen grinded through 51 pitches and Clayton Kershaw dramatically came out of the bullpen for the final two outs.
The tension in that game was so thick and the atmosphere surrounding the last three innings was so hectic, it was enough to send my blood pressure through the roof. I couldn’t stay still or sit down. It was almost too much.
Almost.
The Dodgers and Nationals could be on another collision course headed for each other in the postseason. If the two teams meet this year, it would be for the NLCS to decide who represents the National League in the World Series. It will almost certainly be the Dodgers who hold the home-field advantage this time around.
Are you ready for the roller coaster of emotions, screaming at the top of your lungs and biting your nails down the cuticle? It’s coming fast now.
The dynamic shift that occurs when the postseason starts and the success of a long season no longer holds any weight is about to happen. The nervous energy that amps up the reaction to every pitch making for exceptional drama that can’t be duplicated in the regular season. It will be here in three short weeks.
Will you be there? Will your voice add to the thunderous roar of over 50,000 strong? Get ready. It’s almost here.
I can’t wait.
