As the leaves begin to turn color, we are now seeing more off-season leagues begin play. Today we look at the start of one league and the prospects from the Dodgers who are playing there.

Infielder Cristian Santana began play this week for Estrellas de Oriente in the Liga de Beisbol Dominicano in the Dominican Republic. That is the highest professional winter league in the Dominican Republic.

Estrellas de Oriente has played only three games so far and Santana is 4-for-6 with a double and a walk.

Santana was the California League co-leader in home runs and he led the league with 109 runs batted in. Santana also had a .877 OPS in seven postseason games where he hit two home runs and drove in five runs.

Two other position players who played for Dodger minor-league affiliates this season are also playing for Estrellas de Oriente, catcher Hamlet Marte and infielder Angelo Mora.

Marte signed with the Dodger organization as a minor-league free agent last November. The 24-year old catcher played primarily with Rancho Cucamonga in the California League. In over 250 plate appearances, Marte hit .272/.347/.486. with 12 home runs.

Mora was claimed on waivers last December. He split time with Tulsa and Oklahoma City in 2018. For the entire season, Mora hit .271/.317/.424 in over 314 plate appearances.

The only pitcher from the Dodger organization playing for Estrellas de Oriente is right-hander Joe Broussard. The 27-year old pitcher spent his entire 2018 season at Oklahoma City. He appeared in 57 games and went 5-4 with 10 saves. He struck out 71 against 22 walks in 66⅓ innings pitched.

Starting next Monday, there will be a weekly round-up of Arizona Fall League prospects with occasional updates there about other Dodger prospects playing in off-season leagues.
