Rich Hill tries to continue strong finish in NLDS Game Four start

Braves bring back Mike Foltynewicz after short Game 1 outing

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time in their recent run of postseason appearances, the Dodgers will be using a fourth starter in Game Four of their National League Divisional Series against the Atlanta Braves.

Rich Hill, who closed out his regular season with two straight impressive seven-inning outings, will take the mound for the Dodgers. He will face Atlanta’s Game 1 starter Mike Foltynewicz, who pitched two innings on Thursday and gave up four runs on home runs by Joc Pederson and Max Muncy.

The Dodgers had started Clayton Kershaw on short rest in their four prior NLDS Game Fours. This year’s team has both the depth to use a fourth starter in this round plus Hyun-Jin Ryu is not a candidate to pitch on short rest.

Mike Foltynewicz has not pitched on short rest in his professional career. He did pitch equally as well on four days rest and five days rest this season.

There are no significant lineup changes for either team today as the Dodgers have their lineup they have been using against right-handed starters in this series.
