If you need a reason to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, perhaps this will help. For you gambling fanatics out there, here are a series of completely made up prop bets for the Eagles and Patriots, as they relate to the Dodgers.
These bets involve the game on Sunday against the 2018 season for the Dodgers. Enjoy.
Jay Ajayi carries vs. Chris Taylor home runs
Since joining the Eagles midseason the former Boise State running back averaged 5.8 yards per carry with 70 carries in seven games. He has at least 12 rushing attempts in each of his last five games, including the playoffs, averaging 14.8 carries per game during that span. Taylor was an unsung hero for the Dodgers in 2017, hitting 21 home runs after hitting 23 home runs in his minor league career. For 2018 ZiPS and Marcel both project Taylor to hit 14 home runs while Steamer has Taylor at 17 home runs.
Tom Brady passing yards vs. Corey Seager batting average
Brady, best known for fumbling against the Raiders in the 2002 playoffs, has averaged 296 passing yards in his seven Super Bowls. There is a wide range here, from 145 yards in his first Super Bowl to a record 466 last year. Brady has passed for more than 300 yards twice in the Super Bowl — his last two trips. Seager hit .295 in 2017 after a .308 campaign in his rookie year, and has a .305 lifetime batting average in 329 career games.
Dion Lewis carries plus catches vs. Clayton Kershaw home runs allowed
The Patriots running back has 24 rushing attempts and 16 receptions in their two playoff wins, averaging 20 carries plus catches per game. Kershaw allowed a career-high 23 home runs in 2017 but has otherwise never allowed more than 16 home runs in a season.
Total field goals made vs. Justin Turner stolen bases
The Dodgers third baseman is not known for speed but has been a remarkably efficient baserunner, stealing 22 bases in 27 attempts (81.5%) since joining Los Angeles, including seven steals in eight tries in 2017. The Super Bowl record for total field goals made is five, set in 1994 (Cowboys-Bills II) and matched in 2013 (Ravens-49ers, the Harbowl).
Number of Eagles to catch a pass vs. Number of Dodgers with double-digit home runs
In their divisional round win over the Falcons eight different Eagles caught a pass from Nick Foles, then in the NFC Championship Game seven caught at least one pass. The Dodgers have had eight different players hit at least 10 home runs in each of the last three seasons, one shy of the franchise record set in 2004.
Total turnovers vs. Kenley Jansen blown saves
In the last five Super Bowls there have been 19 total turnovers, including six two years ago. Jansen in his last five years has 18 blown saves, including six two seasons ago.
Length of ‘America the Beautiful’ vs. Yasiel Puig RBI
The over/under for Leslie Odom Jr. to sing America the Beautiful is 80½ seconds, while the Dodgers right fielder drove in a career-high 74 runs in 2017.
Chase Utley signing date vs. Championship parade
The winner of the Super Bowl on Sunday will have a parade at some point next week, which will still be before the reporting date for pitchers and catchers at spring training. Last year Utley didn’t sign until Feb. 18. This year he is still a free agent, but took a break from Dodgers-related activities to join some Always Sunny in Philadelphia friends to express his pick for Sunday.
