PHOENIX — Baseball is back, officially. Not just the back-field workout variety either. We are talking nine to a side, running the bases, stadium with a (new) video board baseball, with the Dodgers and White Sox opening Cactus League play on Friday afternoon at Camelback Ranch.
The Dodgers are the home team in today’s battle of Camelback Ranch co-tenants, one of four planned spring tilts between the two squads.

Corey Seager gets the start at designated hitter for the Dodgers, part of the planned reduced workload on his elbow this spring. Matt Kemp starts in left field in the opener, his first game as a Dodger since Game 4 of the NLDS against the Cardinals, 1,235 days ago.
Trayce Thompson gets the start in right field.
Wilmer Font gets the start for the Dodgers, out of options and trying to make an impression to make the major league roster after a stellar 2017 season in Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Other pitchers slated to pitch for the Dodgers after Font include left-hander Edward Paredes, who is on the 40-man roster, and several non-roster invitees in camp — Yaisel Sierra, Pat Venditte, Daniel Corcino, C.C. Lee and Brian Moran.
Dylan Covey, who was dropped off Chicago’s 40-man and sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, starts for the White Sox.
Teams across MLB will be wearing caps to show support for Stoneman Douglas High School and the surrounding community in and around Parkland, Fla. on Friday after last week’s school shooting. The Dodgers will wear these caps during today’s game:
