Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said during spring training he planned to give Corey Seager regular rest this season, especially after an offseason of elbow rest and rehab followed by a deliberately slow throwing program during spring training.
That rest begins in the third game of the season, with Seager sitting on Saturday against the Giants. a Kiké Hernandez gets the start at shortstop as the Dodgers shuffle the infield around a little bit.
Logan Forsythe shifts back to second base on Saturday, with Kyle Farmer getting the start at third base.
This is the second career start for Famer, who is primarily a catcher, and his first start of 2018. Now his major league starts will have been at first base and third base, but not yet at catcher.
Austin Barnes starts at catcher as planned, with left-hander Derek Holland on the mound for San Francisco.
Only two active Dodgers have even faced Holland in their careers. Matt Kemp, batting cleanup on Saturday, is 0-for-3 against Holland, while Chris Taylor is 0-for-2.
