LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers placed infielder Logan Forsythe on the 10-day disabled list for right shoulder inflammation and recalled utility player Breyvic Valera from Oklahoma City. Valera was acquired two weeks ago from St. Louis in exchange for outfielder Johan Mieses.

According to manager Dave Roberts, the MRI on Forsythe’s shoulder did not show any structural damage and he is hopeful is stay on the DL will be a short one.

“I would say obviously, there is inflammation there in the shoulder, not severe, which is good,” Roberts said this morning, “that he’ll be ready once his ten days are up is feasible.”

“It is just something where there was fatigue, inflammation in there but no structural damage.”

Forsythe started managing this problem back in spring training. “Throughout the spring, it was something he was battling with,” Roberts said, “there were a couple days in there where we tried to give him a couple of days to rest his shoulder.”

“Just yesterday, it kind of tightened up and then he said there was some fatigue in there,” Roberts said, “so wanted to get him out of there, get some pictures, actually it is something he has battled for the last six weeks.”

Valera had started at second, short and third base in the first few weeks at Oklahoma City and was hitting .316/.417/.421 in 23 plate appearances. Roberts said that Valera fits the Dodgers needs right now.

“Athletic, switch-hitter, can play anywhere essentially on the field, good runner,” Roberts said, “in the National League, our ballclub, it makes sense, we’ll try to get him there and get his feet wet.”

Infield shuffling

Kiké Hernández should get plenty of starts at third base while Forsythe is on the DL. “This gives Kiké an opportunity, a little bit of a runway to play some third base, and get Farmer possibly in there as well.”

Roberts said that even with a schedule of opposing right-handed pitchers coming up, he does not see Chase Utley as the regular second baseman right now though he did see Utley playing against right-handed pitchers.

“I am contemplating something at second base but it won’t be Chase, whether its Barnes or Kiké and then Farmer at third base, I haven’t made that decision yet.”
