Dodgers Week 5: Starts for Walker Buehler

MLB: Game 1-Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers played more bad baseball last week, dropping a series to the lowly Marlins and the rival Giants. They played the two worst scoring offenses in the National League (heading into last week) and allowed over five runs a game, and the result was five losses in seven games.

They suffered injuries, some more serious than others, then Sunday saw a player benched for not hustling, and no it wasn’t who you might think.

Looking back, the best outcome for the Dodgers is that this week is more remembered for Walker Buehler making his first major league start(s).

Batter of the week

Joc Pederson hit .500 last week, including a career-best four hits in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Despite starting just three of the seven games Pederson led the team in hits (eight), RBI (six) and walks (five), posting a .619 on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the week

Walker Buehler made his first two major league starts and was just fine, allowing a total of two runs in his 10 innings, with 11 strikeouts. He threw 89 pitches Monday against Miami and 94 on Saturday in San Francisco, the two highest pitch totals in a game in his professional career.

Week 5 results

2-5 record
34 runs scored (4.86 per game)

Season to date
