Dodgers Week 7: The Big Dead Machine

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers got swept at home by the team with the worst record in the National League, dropping four straight to the Reds over the weekend. That made the Dodgers losers of 14 of their last 19 games and off to their worst 40-game start in 60 years.

They have lost three straight series to last-place teams, but it’s hard to lose to a last-place team when you are one. The Dodgers suddenly find themselves just one game out of last in the National League West.

There have been seven weeks this season, and the Dodgers have had a losing record in five of them. They are on pace for 97 losses.

Sure the sweep by the Reds may feel like rock bottom for the Dodgers, but they continue to surprise with a seemingly endless reservoir of disappointment this year so I’m not so sure.

Batter of the week

Yasmani Grandal hit a pair of home runs and walked five times, posting an 1.102 OPS. Close second goes to Max Muncy, who drove in three runs with a home run of his own and four doubles.

Pitcher of the week

Walker Buehler struck out eight and walked none on Thursday against Cincinnati, allowing two runs. He beat out solid starts by Ross Stripling and Alex Wood.
