Dodgers Week 9: The long climb back

The Dodgers built on last weekend’s sweep by winning two more series at home, beating the Padres and Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

They are still under .500, but lead the National League West in run differential, and have shaved their division deficit from 8½ to 3½ games in 11 days, including trimming off 1½ games last week.

Batter of the week

Chris Taylor provided spark at the top of the lineup with two home runs and two doubles, and the team strikeout leader didn’t strike out once in 24 plate appearances. Taylor also walked six times and now shares the team lead in walks, too.

Honorable mention goes to Matt Kemp, who hit .409 (9-for-22) with the team’s first three-run home run in five weeks; and to Max Muncy, who homered twice.

Pitcher of the week

Starting pitching was phenomenal last week, and Walker Buehler came out in top with volume. The only Dodger with two starts last week, Buehler allowed one run in seven innings twice while striking out 14 and walking none.

Honorable mention goes to both Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling, both of whom pitched into the seventh with no walks and no earned runs and double-digit strikeouts.
