Dodgers turn to Alex Wood as they try to avoid a Dbacks sweep

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will close out the two-game series at Dodger Stadium Wednesday with a pair of lefties who are on opposite sides of the win-loss column, much like their respective teams.

Alex Wood will take the ball for the Dodgers in search of his first win on the season. The 27-year-old has allowed three or less runs in five of his seven starts, totaling six earned runs over 30 13 innings pitched in those games. Despite those numbers, Wood is still 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA.

It was at this point in 2017 that Wood really took off, cutting down every team in his path on his way to an 11-0 start. From May 8 to July 15, Wood gave up just six runs in 62 innings, striking out 74 against 14 walks.

The area of concern for the Dodgers at the moment is the stockpile of players on the disabled list. They hope they won’t have to add Wood to that growing list after he battled hamstring cramping in his last start.

Corbin (4-0, 2.15) has been a different story for the Dbacks this season, developing into the ace he always had the potential to be. The 28-year-old has been stingy, giving up just 26 hits and 11 runs in 46 innings, while striking out 60 with nine walks.

Corbin has allowed just one run to the Dodgers in two starts but the Dodgers took one of those games when these two pitchers squared off less than a week ago in Arizona.

This will be the last meeting between these two teams until August 30. The Dodgers could use the break since they’ve lost eight of the 11 games so far this season.
