Two runs in the seventh and then a run in the ninth gave the Quakes another big win as they move into a first place tie. The Drillers were slowed down and the Loons continued to play well. The Dominican Summer League Dodgers Robinson team also won today while the Dodgers Guerrero team went down to defeat.
Player of the day
Cristian Santana had two hits including a two-run homer in the seventh inning that gave the Quakes the lead they held for an inning. Santana has nine home runs and 46 runs batted in so far this season.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers were off as they returned home from their California road trip, tonight they will begin their series against the Salt Lake Bees (Angels).
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers were held to one hit and one walk for the first seven innings and that was too much to overcome in their 3-1 loss to the Springfield Cardinals. After both teams did not score for the first three innings, the Cardinals scored all three runs in the fourth inning.
A late Driller’s rally found one run in after a walk to Yusniel Diaz forced in a run in the ninth inning. The bases remained loaded but both Will Smith and Keibert Ruiz were unable to drive any of them in.
Mitchell White had two solid outings in a row before this performance. After both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings, the Cardinals scored three times to take a lead they would never give up. White did not make it out of the fourth inning, he went 3⅔ inning, he gave up four hits and three runs.
While the Driller bullpen did the job, the offense was held down by Connor Jones who pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out six.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes trailed early, came back to take a lead and then after the game was tied, the Quakes scored a run in the ninth to win 4-3 over the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres). The Quakes rally consisted of a hit batter, an error and a ground out to short. But that was enough to score the run that put the Quakes in a first place tie.
Cristian Santana hit a two-run homer in the seventh to give the Quakes the lead. The Storm would tie the game in the eighth inning. That all set up the dramatic ninth inning rally.
Tony Gonsolin started for the Quakes and in his five innings, he gave up seven hits and two runs. Marshall Kasowski was impressive in getting his second save, he struck out two in the ninth inning.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons took the lead via a Marcus Chiu homer and that was enough to win 3-2 over the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). Max Gamboa pitched five innings in relief and he got the win for those five scoreless innings plus striking out five.
One quirk in this game was Darrell Miller, Jr. scoring two of the three Loons’ runs despite going 0-for-2 as he got on base via an error and hit-by-pitch.
Chiu’s home run in the fifth was Chiu’s eighth home run of the season.
