Dodgers Week 10: Offense busts out at Coors Field

This was a fleeting week for the Dodgers, who saw their ace back but only for one day, with Clayton Kershaw joining Kenta Maeda on a disabled list that includes 80% of the Dodgers’ opening day rotation.

They lost a game by a run that was counted despite the runner never touching home plate. The Dodgers even had a five-man bench at one point during the week. For one day anyway.

But despite all that the Dodgers won five of their seven games, including finding their offense with a weekend romp in Coors Field. When catcher Yasmani Grandal was asked by Alanna Rizzo on Sunday what changed to spur the offense he simply said, “Colorado.”

The bullpen was fantastic this week, even more so if you count Dennis Santana in his major league debut as a starter, since he followed four-out opener Scott Alexander. a Dodgers relievers posted a 3.16 ERA as is but swapping those two it was 2.34 with 39 strikeouts and six walks.

The Dodgers are 4-0-1 in their last five series after winning just two of their first 14 series.

Batter of the week

Matt Kemp continued his renaissance with three more home runs and eight RBI, hitting .429 (9-for-21). Honorable mention goes to Yasiel Puig, who was 10-for-22 (.455) with a home run, one of five Dodgers with a 1.000 OPS or higher last week.

Kemp was also named NL Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career.

Pitcher of the week

Ross Stripling finished off his stellar May with a strong seven-inning performance against the Phillies with nine strikeouts. Honorable mention goes to Tony Cingrani, who retired 12 of his 13 batters in relief with seven strikeouts.
