The Dodgers head into the break alone in first place in the National League West, a peak they reached just last week. Winning series against the Padres and Angels, taking five of seven games, was the culmination of a 37-17 (.685) run that brought Los Angeles from 10 games under .500 at their worst to now 10 games over.
Batter of the week
Yasmani Grandal was 7-for-18 (.389) with a home run, two doubles and three walks to take this award. Max Muncy (2 home runs, 6 walks) and Cody Bellinger (.370, 5 doubles) had strong weeks as well.
Honorable mention goes to Chase Utley, who on Friday announced his retirement at the end of the season to spend more time with his family. Utley was 4-for-7 with a double, incuding 3-for-4 as a pinch hitter, and reached base in six of his nine plate appearances.
Pitcher of the week
Ross Stripling had a strong week with six scoreless innings and was named to his first All-Star team, but this week’s award goes to Kenta Maeda, who struck out nine for a fourth consecutive start, then struck out a batter to get out of a bases-loaded jam in relief on Sunday to win twice.

Miscellany
Win Diego: Clayton Kershaw on Monday pitched six scoreless innings against the Padres, with the Dodgers winning his last 13 starts against San Diego. Kershaw in those last 13 starts against the Padres has allowed 12 total runs for a 0.89 ERA with 118 strikeouts and 18 walks.
Too grand: Also on Monday, Kershaw surpassed the 2,000-inning plateau in his career. He’s the 13th pitcher to throw that many innings for the Dodgers, and the 11th active pitcher with at least 2,000 innings under his belt.
Clayton Kershaw has now pitched 2,000 career innings.

Welcome back: Andrew Toles was called up on Monday, making his first major league appearance since May 9, 2017. After the Freeway Series Toles has basically been with Oklahoma City or rehabbing his hamstring all season, which led to an issue we didn’t really think of until now:
Andrew Toles’s Dodge Challenger has been languishing in a Dodger Stadium parking lot for months. Teammates have texted him photos. He suspects spiderwebs have developed and words have been written in the accumulated dust.
— Pedro Moura (@pedromoura) July 10, 2018
Andrew Toles left his Dodge Challenger at Dodger Stadium when he went to OKC to start the season. J.T. Chargois recently sent him a picture.
— Andy McCullough (@McCulloughTimes) July 10, 2018
"There's like spiderwebs, and dust," he said. Matt Kemp told Toles the car looked "gross."
Mr. July: For the first time in eight years Kershaw won’t be introduced at the All-Star Game, but he heads into the break with a strong week, striking out 13 in 12⅔ innings in his two starts. Kershaw hasn’t lost a start in July since 2013. In his last 19 July starts since then Kershaw is 13-0 with a 1.02 ERA, 158 strikeouts and 15 walks in 141⅔ innings.
Transactions
Monday: Yasiel Puig was placed on the disabled list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain, and is expected to miss at least a few weeks. Andrew Toles was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City for his first major league action in 14 months.
Tuesday: Kenta Maeda returned from the paternity list after the birth of his son, and reliever Edward Paredes was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Wednesday: Lefty reliever Zac Rosscup was claimed off waivers from the Rockies, and fellow southpaw Paredes was designated for assignment.
Friday: Walker Buehler was activated from the disabled list to start against the Halos, and Pat Venditte was optioend to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Saturday: Buehler was optioned with the break approaching in a move equal parts workload related and roster management. That made room for the activation of Rosscup.

The week ahead
The bulk of the Dodgers are off for four days, except for Dave Roberts, Matt Kemp, Kenley Jansen, Max Muncy and Ross Stripling who are headed to Washington D.C. for All-Star festivities. After the break the Dodgers open a 10-game road trip with three games in Milwaukee against the National League Central-leading Brewers. The rotations have yet to be determined, but manager Dave Roberts said Rich Hill and Clayton Kershaw would start two of the three games.
