Andrew Toles optioned to make room for Manny Machado

The Dodgers on Friday optioned outfielder Andrew Toles to Triple-A Oklahoma City in order to make room for their new shortstop, Manny Machado.

Toles was 6-for-23 (.261) with two doubles in seven games with the Dodgers after being recalled on July 9 when Yasiel Puig went to the disabled list. With a crowded outfield and Yasiel Puig potentially coming back in a couple weeks, it could be a while before Toles is back at the big league level.

Machado will be in the lineup at shortstop when the Dodgers open a three-game series Friday night in Milwaukee. It will be No. 8 on Machado’s back instead of the 13 he wore in Baltimore, partly because of his love for Kobe Bryant.
