Manny Machado reaches base four times in Dodgers debut

“That blue looks good on me.”

Manny Machado was all smiles as he spoke to the media Friday after his first game in a Dodgers uniform. A night that saw him reach base four times in five trips to the plate in a 6-4 win over the Brewers — a team that also tried to acquire him.

A trade for a player of his caliber brings a certain level of expectations to the club that acquired him. Does that make Machado nervous that so much could be on his shoulders?

“Not at all. Why would I be? Once I step out there I’m playing baseball,” he said. “I was excited. I was more excited than I was nervous.”

Of course, it helps that the Dodgers have had the World Series in mind for six straight years now and added Machado to a solid roster.

Machado didn’t drive in any runs but he was right in the mix of what the offense was doing all night, with two singles and two walks. The tradition of a good Manny debut continued.
