The Dodgers did some shopping over the All-Star break, picking up the best player on the trade market in shortstop Manny Machado, who then helped the offense in taking two of three against the Brewers in Milwaukee over the weekend.
Batter of the week
Matt Kemp started in the All-Star Game, then went 6-for-13 (.462) with two home runs once the real games started up again.
Honorable mention goes to Max Muncy, who hit 29 over the fence and made it to the second round of the Home Run Derby on Monday in Washington D.C., then hit .333 with two doubles over the weekend.
Pitcher of the week
Rich Hill struck out nine in the first game back from the break, and allowed just one run in six innings in a win in Milwaukee. Honorable mention goes to Caleb Ferguson, who struck out four in a three-inning save on Sunday and has a 1.13 ERA and a 20-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio out of the bullpen.
Week 17 results
2-1 record
19 runs scored (6.33 per game)
10 runs allowed (3.33 per game)
.764 pythagorean record
Season to date
55-44 record

.597 pythagorean record (59-40)
Miscellany
Early welcome: Matt Kemp made his first All-Star team in six years and even started for the National League. He doubled in his first at-bat, the first extra-base hit in the midsummer classic by a Dodger since Mike Piazza in 1996. But what made the double extra memorable was taking a selfie with shortstop Manny Machado at second base, amid swirling trade rumors and just one day before the two became teammates.

Everything is al-right: Kike Hernandez provided late insurance with a three-run home run against Brewers reliever Brandon Woodruff on Friday, helping to secure a 6-4 win. Hernandez, who vowed to hit right-handers better this season during spring training, is hitting .233/.322/.512 against them this season with 10 home runs in 150 plate appearances. In his previous four seasons he hit nine home runs in 496 PA, with a .324 slugging percentage.

Transactions
Wednesday: All-Star infielder Manny Machado was acquired from Baltimore for outfielder Yusniel Diaz, infielders Breyvic Valera and Rylan Bannon, and pitchers Dean Kremer and Zach Pop.
Friday: Andrew Toles was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room on the active roster for Machado.
Game results
Tuesday: American League 8, National League 6 (10)
Friday: Dodgers 6, Brewers 4
Saturday: Brewers 4, Dodgers 2
Sunday: Dodgers 11, Brewers 2
The week ahead
The Dodgers run the Wes Covington gauntlet this week, finishing off their road trip with seven games in Philadelphia and Atlanta. Sunday’s TBS broadcast of Dodgers-Braves will not be available in Los Angeles. The pitching matchups after Tuesday haven’t been divulged just yet, but I’m guessing Walker Buehler when he was optioned telling a teammate, “See you in Philly” wasn’t just for show.
