With three weeks left in the season, the Dodgers have recalled 22-year-old Julio Urías from Oklahoma City.
Urías last pitched for the Dodgers on May 20, 2017, where he allowed seven runs in 2⅓ innings. A month later, it was announced he would undergo season-ending anterior capsule surgery on his left shoulder. He was expected to miss 12-14 months.
Urías has appeared in eight minor league games in the regular season, plus two more playoff games with OKC. In 13⅓ innings, the left-hander owned a 6.08 ERA. He had 20 strikeouts and eight walks.
Though most of his major league games have come as a starter, Urías may become a valuable piece coming out of the bullpen.
This also means that Urías will not use up an option year in 2018.
Julio Urias was recalled by the Dodgers. He was optioned for 16 total days, less than the 20 required to use up an option year. So he’ll go into 2019 with a minor league option remaining
