The 2019 major league offseason is finally here. The Dodgers ended their season with 42 players on the 40-man roster, including two on the 60-day disabled list. However that number is already changed because free agency began yesterday, October 31 at 6:00 a.m. PDT.
There are currently 39 players on the 40-man roster as the Dodgers selected left-handed pitcher Victor Gonzalez’s contract on October 31.
Free agents (4)
- David Freese
- Rich Hill
- Russell Martin
- Hyun-Jin Ryu
David Freese announced his retirement shortly after the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs.
Ryu is no longer eligible to receive a qualifying offer having accepted the offer last year.
Options (2)
Kenley Jansen can opt out of his contract, he has two years left and the contract is worth $38 million. It was reported on October 31 that Jansen will not opt out.
Jedd Gyorko has a $13 million club option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout. It would seem very likely that the Dodgers will pay the buyout and that Gyorko will be a free agent.

If Kenley Jansen does not use his opt out, this figure will increase to $97 million ($91.5 million toward the competitive tax threshold).
Yaisel Sierra is still under contract through 2021, but remains off the 40-man roster, with his salary not counting toward the competitive balance tax.
Arbitration eligible
Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy will likely see the biggest salary increases as they will have their first arbitration-eligible offseason.
