Cody Bellinger is going to need a bigger shelf.
After winning his first career Gold Glove Award earlier in the week, Bellinger added another piece of hardware to his trophy display. On Thursday, Bellinger was the recipient of a Silver Slugger Award, the first of his career.
Given to the best offensive player at each position, there was no doubt that he would take home this award after an incredible 2019 campaign.
He finished with a career-high 47 home runs, the most among outfielders in the National League. His 115 RBI, also a career-high, led all NL outfielders as well. Additionally, he hit .305 while being one of six players in the majors to finish with an OPS of over 1.000.
Bellinger is the first Dodger to win the award since Corey Seager did in 2017. He’s the first Dodger outfielder to win the award since Matt Kemp won in 2011.
