Quakes ends losing streak with 4-1 win

Dodger minor league affiliates win two of four on Monday

Oklahoma City and Rancho Cucamonga were victors on Monday while Tulsa and Great Lakes each lost by a run.

Player of the day

2018 18th round draftee Niko Hulsizer hit three home runs in the Great Lakes game against South Bend on Monday. The corner outfielder was the designated hitter in this game hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Hulsizer then hit solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings to finish his multi-home run game.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers defeated the Cubs 10-5 in their series finale at Iowa. The Dodgers had 14 hits and that included multi-hit games from Drew Jackson, Matt Beaty, Will Smith, Cameron Perkins and starting pitcher Rob Zastryzny.

On the mound, Zastryzny pitched four innings and gave up three runs. Despite giving up three runs in 1⅓ innings, Layne Somsen got his second win of the year.

Smith hit his third home run of the season and he is now hitting .357/.486/.857 in 35 plate appearances.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers hit three home runs but that wasn’t enough in their 6-5 loss to the Cardinals. Justus DeFratus gave up five runs in five innings and took the loss.

Cody Thomas and Chris Parmelee homered in the second inning to give the Drillers a quick three run lead. Gavin Lux hit his second home run of the season in the ninth inning.

Lux and Omar Estevez continued their hot start of the season. Lux went 2-for-4 and Estevez had three hits in the game. Keibert Ruiz had two hits and Zach Reks went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Single-A Rancho Cucamonga

The Quakes scored four runs in the first inning and that was enough to win 4-1 over the Storm (Padres). The Quakes are winless in three games at home but are now 6-2 on the road.

Quakes pitchers were able to pitch well with runners on base. The Storm went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.

Edwin Uceta made the start and he went 4⅓ innings. He gave up a run and six hits. Elio Serrano got the win and Jordan Sheffield picked up his third save.

The Quakes scored on a pair of two-run homers in the first inning. It was both the fourth home runs of the season for Connor Wong and Devin Mann.

Class-A Great Lakes

Despite three home runs from Niko Hulsizer, the Loons fell a run short as the Cubs won 6-5 on Monday. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, an error by Dillon Paulson followed by a walk and a two-run double gave the Cubs the lead that they never lost.

Stephen Kolek started for the Loons and gave up three runs in 3⅔ innings. Alfredo Tavarez gave up three runs including the two unearned runs in the seventh and he took the loss.

Romer Cuadrado went 2-for-5 and scored a run. Jacob Amaya and Luke Heyer each had one hit. The Loons went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times against taking two walks.
