Sunday morning notes before brunch time game

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Cincinnati Reds David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

After holding out Justin Turner on Saturday after he fouled a ball off his left shin during Friday’s night game, Turner was back in today’s lineup at third base.

Including today’s game, Turner has started 40 games and has played in 44 games.

Ryu will try to extend another streak

In his last start at Dodger Stadium, Ryu finally gave up a walk at home. It was his first walk at Dodger Stadium since August 26, 2018.

Ryu has another active streak, he has had 11 straight starts where he has given up two runs or less. It is the longest active streak of that kind in baseball.

During this stretch, Ryu has pitched 71⅓ innings and he has given up 11 runs and 47 hits. He has 70 strikeouts and only five walks. His ERA for this streak is 1.39.

Dodgers vs Reds history

These two franchises have played 2356 games against each other since 1884, the Dodgers have won 1190 and the Reds have won 1152.

The all-time Dodger leader in home runs against the Reds in Duke Snider. Snider played 275 games against the Reds in a Dodger uniform and he hit .318/.399/.599 with 69 home runs.

Snider hit 52 of those home runs when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. That was the most any Brooklyn Dodger hit against the Reds.

And although Steve Garvey leads all Los Angeles Dodgers in home runs against the Reds with 36, Snider’s 17 home runs as an LA Dodger puts him in a fourth place tie with Rick Monday and Dusty Baker.

Joc Pederson has nine home runs against the Reds, that leads all current Dodgers. Only Matt Kemp, who hit 11 while wearing Dodger Blue, has hit more home runs against the Reds since 2006.

Bullpen notes

  • After giving up runs in his first two games of the year, Pedro Baez has not allowed a run in 16 of the 19 games he has pitched since then.
  • Ross Stripling has had three consecutive scoreless outings and he has only pitched in three games in May.
  • Joe Kelly has pitched two consecutive scoreless innings this weekend, it is the second time this season he has done that in back-to-back games.
  • Dylan Floro has pitched in 19 games at Great American Ball Park in his career. In the 26⅓ innings, he has allowed three runs and 18 hits but no home runs yet.
