Dodgers news...

The Dodgers defeated the Pirates and swept the season series. You can read the True Blue LA recap here.

The Dodgers season series sweep extended their success against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While the Dodgers penchant for hitting home runs, not striking out and getting quality starts has been some of the more notable reasons for their strong start of the season, you cannot overlook their team defense.

MLB.com writer Jack Crouse writes here about manager Dave Roberts comments on his defense especially the fine play of Cody Bellinger in right field.

“There are moments where I kind of [marvel],” Roberts said. “The play made last night saved Ryu a run, and that was a breaking point for Hyun-Jin’s outing. … It’s fun to watch. It’s really fun to see his growth.”

Also Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions wrote about the Dodgers leading baseball in defensive runs saved.

Bellinger has saved 11 runs as a right fielder. His 12 runs saved overall lead the majors. Those include four Outfield Arm Runs Saved, which is tied for the most in the majors.

Around the league...

The second son of Baseball Hall-of-Famer hit his first career home run while wearing a Toronto Blue Jays uniform this season.

Alexis Brudnicki writes for MLB.com about Cavan Biggio’s big day.

Sunday also saw a grandson of a Baseball Hall-of-Famer not only get his first hit of his career but it was his first multi-hit game of his career.

The title of NBC Sports Brian Witt’s article sums up the weekend in San Francisco, Mike Yastrzemski’s three-hit day offers hope in Giants’ ‘worst series’”

“Any hit you can get, you’re going to take,” Yastrzemski said of crossing ‘first career major league hit’ off his bucket list. “You never have any bad words to say about it, regardless of what it looks like. The rest of (the hits), they kind of just let you relax and have a better approach at the plate and not have to press or anything like that.”

Finally, was this the best play in the Oakland A’s win to extend their winning streak to nine games, could be, in any case, it was certainly the best one made by ball boy on Sunday.
