LOS ANGELES — — The Dodgers announced today that they have activated right-handed pitcher Joe Kelly from the bereavement list. The corresponding move was optioning left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson.

Kelly was placed on the bereavement list on last Friday before the start of the series against the Pirates.

“It’s good to have Joe back, for the last few days to be with his family, was important,” manager Dave Roberts said this afternoon,” had to take care of some personal matters, family certainly comes first.”

Ferguson has pitched in 17 games this season. He has pitched 16⅔ innings and given up 19 hits and 11 runs. He has 16 strikeouts and 11 walks.

“And then with Caleb, just having, you have to make a move,” Roberts said, “it wasn’t a result of or a reaction to yesterday’s outing for Caleb. I actually thought he threw the ball decent, there were just some grounders that bounced off the infield grass, it was unluckiness yesterday for Caleb.”

Roberts said that Ferguson will continue to pitch out of the bullpen at Oklahoma City.

“I think that for him to pitch regularly as he’s been kind of going through delivery things over the last month and a half,” Roberts said, “work on the curveball, the fastball command.”

“But Caleb’s a guy we need going forward and I expect it to a brief stint in OKC.”
