Perhaps this all you need for the recap of the Dodgers 1-0 win over the Giants on Sunday afternoon.

But then you would miss a great pitching matchup between Walker Buehler and Madison Bumgarner at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Madison Bumgarner’s best two starts of this season has been against the Dodgers. On Sunday he pitched seven innings and gave up just the one run on Max Muncy’s home run. Otheriwse he allpwed a total of four hits with one walk. He also struck out five.

But that was not good enough as Walker Buehler followed up his best start of the season with perhaps his second best start of the season. Buehler pitched seven scoreless innings and he allowed five hits and one walk. He struck out nine in his seven innings pitched.

Buehler did have to get out of one sticky situation in the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles put runners on first and third with no outs. Pedro Sandoval followed with a hard smash down the left field line.

Justin Turner was able to glove Sandoval’s grounder and then he threw to Austin Barnes who was able to run Mike Yastrzemski towards third base and Barnes tagged him out. Buehler got the next two Giants to fly out and he and the Dodgers left the sixth still ahead by a run.

Both Buehler and Bumgarner pitched scoreless seventh innings and they would respectively hit for when their next turns at bat came up.

Pedro Baez was able to record a scoreless eighth and then Kenley Jansen retired the side in order with two strikeouts to pick up the save.

As for the scoring in this game, that was done after the second Dodger hitter came to bat. Max Muncy hit a Bumgarner pitch into San Francisco Bay to score the only run of the game.

This was the first 1-0 Dodger win at San Francisco since July 20, 2011 when Clayton Kershaw beat TIm Lincecum. And the only run in that game came on a Dioner Navarro splash shot.

The Dodgers have won four of six in their road trip with two left in Anaheim. They will return to Southern California with an 11-game lead in the NL West.
