After a seven-game road trip, the Dodgers return home as they welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks for a brief two-game series. Last week, the D-Backs took two of three from LA when the teams met in Phoenix. Entering the series, the Dodgers hold a 14-game lead over the D-Backs in the division.
Game one: Ross Stripling (2-2, 3.08 ERA) vs. Taylor Clarke (2-3, 6.10 ERA)
Tuesday, July 2 - 7:10 p.m. PDT
With the injury to Rich Hill, Ross Stripling continues his stint on the Dodgers starting rotation. He made his first start as the replacement last week in Arizona. For Stripling, it was his first start in two months. In three innings, Stripling struck out four and allowed one run on four hits. In seven starts this season, Stripling has an ERA of 2.68, as opposed to his 4.02 ERA as a reliever.
It’s been a rough season for Taylor Clarke, who comes into his start with an ERA over six. He is familiar with the Dodgers, as this will be his third time facing them this year. In his previous two starts, he’s gone 10 innings, allowing four runs and striking out seven.
Game two: Walker Buehler (8-1, 3.43 ERA) vs. Merrill Kelly (7-8, 4.00 ERA)
Wednesday, July 3 - 7:10 p.m. PDT
Walker Buehler will be looking to bounce back from one of the worst starts of his career. He allowed a career-high seven runs and 13 hits at Coors Field this past week. His previous start against Arizona was one of the best of his career. On June 3 in Arizona, he went eight innings, allowing only two hits while striking out 11.
This will be Merrill Kelly’s first matchup against LA this season. It’s been a struggle on the road for Kelly, as he has a 4.99 ERA and a WHIP of 1.46 away from Chase Field. He’s averaged 5 1⁄2 strikeouts per nine innings, and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.36.
