Now that the All-Star break is here we can do a little unwinding and reflect on the “first half” of the Dodgers season. The overriding development of those first 92 games was Cody Bellinger, who is having a career year and building one of the best years in franchise history.
Think of it this way: if Bellinger doesn’t do a thing the rest of the season, he already has 30 home runs and 6.6 Wins Above Replacement (the Baseball-Reference version), something done only once in the previous 14 seasons by a Dodger.
We talk about Bellinger’s improvements, what helps him stand out in the MVP race, and where his season already ranks historically among Dodgers greats.
