The Nationals, Rays and Cardinals got a little closer to clinching their postseason appearance with wins on Monday.
No division titles can be clinched until Wednesday at the earliest
However, if the Nationals can sweep their doubleheader against the Phillies and the Cubs lose, the Nationals would be the first team to clinch a wild-card spot
Tiebreaker and home-field advantage status
Currently, there are no ties of consequence in the National League postseason, if the Brewers and Nationals end up tied for the two wild-card spots, the Brewers will host the wild-card game because they won their season series against the Nationals.
The Rays and Indians are going back and forth for the second wild-card position, if they end up tied, they will play on Monday September 30th at Tampa because the Rays won their season series 6 games to 1.
The real fun would be a three-way tie for two wild-card spots, the Athletics have a 1½ games lead over the Rays with the Indians just a half-game behind the Rays.
The Dodgers need a win or a Braves loss to clinch home field advantage throughout the National League playoffs. The Braves have clinched having home field in National League Divisional Series.
The Astros and Yankees are tied for best record in the American League, the Astros have the tie-breaker against the Yankees.
