The Quakes were eliminated from the California League playoffs, the Drillers and Loons play elimination games today and the Raptors start their playoffs later today.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers and Travelers (Mariners) are now tied 2-2 in their best-of-five series as the Drillers lost 4-1 on Saturday. The Travelers used three home runs to score all four of their runs in their win.
Parker Curry pitched a solid six innings for the Drillers, he gave up two runs and five hits. Jordan Sheffield gave up the two-run homer in the eighth that gave the Travelers their final winning margin.
The Drillers could only manage six singles and three walks and as a team they went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The winner of today’s game will go on to host the first two games of the best-of-five Texas League Championship that will begin on Tuesday.
Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes season ended on Saturday night with their 11-2 loss to the Storm (Padres). The playoffs again show that an entire regular season sometimes are not reflected in the playoffs as the Quakes went 21-9 against the Storm during the regular season but lost three of four games to them in the playoffs.
The Storm led 1-0 until the fifth when they finally broke through to score five runs. The Storm had 14 hits in the game and in the fifth, four of those hits drove in those five runs.
One bright spot was the continued strong play by Jeren Kendall, he provided the only offense for the Quakes with a two-run homer. Kendall hit .303/.389/.626 in 112 PA in August and September with seven home runs. He still struck out 33 times but he also drew 13 walks.
Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons lost 6-4 to the Cubs and they now trail 1-0 in their best-of-three series. The Cubs took an early four-run lead and were able to hold on to it at home. The series will now move to Great Lakes as they will try to win the next two games at home to keep their season alive.
An error by Leonel Valera led to three unearned runs in the second inning. Stephen Kolek took the loss, he pitched 2⅓ innings and allowed seven hits and four runs.
The Loons went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Valera and Jair Camargo hit solo home runs.
Advanced Rookie Ogden
The Raptors lost 4-2 to the Owlz (Angels) to end their regular season. Thus the Raptors 54 total wins could only tie the Pioneer League’s record that they now share with two other teams.
Adolfo Ramirez took the loss, he gave up three runs and five hits in four innings pitched.
Aldrich De Jongh and Imanol Vargas each hit solo home runs for Ogden. But the Raptors also struck out 15 times and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
The Raptors travel to Grand Junction to begin their best-of-three series, the winner of that series will advance to the Pioneer League Championship series.
