An appreciation of minor league ‘Star Wars’ uniforms

On Star Wars Day

It’s May 4, which is Star Wars Day (“May the fourth be with you,” get it?), which is an opportunity to share one of the great related scams ever.

Don’t worry, she got her car.

But today is not about toy Yodas or Toyotas. It’s about embracing phenomena, something minor league teams try to do in spades. The two Dodgers’ Class-A affiliates have been most prolific in capitalizing on Star Wars in recent years.

Each of had various Star Wars nights, complete with special jerseys (many of which are auctioned off for various charities and fundraising campaigns) or perhaps Darth Vader, Chewbacca, a Stormtrooper, or Princess Leia throwing out a first pitch, or maybe all four.

These special nights aren’t necessarily on May 4. This is just the day we celebrate them.

First up, the Great Lakes Loons.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have gotten in on the Star Wars action, too, and even had the added benefit of Justin Turner and Logan Forsythe wearing a Star Wars jersey in 2018 while on a rehab assignment. Turner was 0-for-3 with a walk while Forsythe was 1-for-4 with a double in the game, in case you were wondering.

Let us know which of these Loons or Quakes Star Wars jerseys are your favorites in the comments, or perhaps a different team pulled off something similarly memorable to you.
