Watch party: 1983 NLCS, Game 2

Dodgers try to get even with Phillies in LA

Kenny Landreaux Going up to Catch Ball

The Dodgers try to get even with the Phillies in Game 2 of the 1983 National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium in tonight’s watch party.

Steve Carlton won the opener, so the Dodgers turn to their ace Fernando Valenzuela in Game 2. Valenzuela won the 1981 NL Cy Young Award, and in this game faced John Denny, who would win the 1983 NL Cy Young Award for the Phillies for his 19-win season.

The Dodgers won 11 of 12 games against the Phillies during the regular season, and as the 1980s taught us, that surely means playoff success.

Jack Fimple starts at catcher in this one for the Dodgers.

A note: This will be our 37th watch party and the last one for now, since we’ll have regular intrasquad games to watch going forward. Thanks everyone for participating in what was a fun experiment to pass the time without baseball.

We’ll watch this one on YouTube beginning at 4 p.m. PT:
