He’ll hopefully return soon

Mookie Betts exited yesterday’s game with soreness in his middle finger on his left hand. He’s not in the lineup today in San Diego, and according to manager Dave Roberts, there is ‘substantial’ swelling. He hasn’t ruled him out for tomorrow’s game, but said they’ll see how he feels tomorrow.

Betts hurt the finger on a normal swing during his at bat on Sunday in which he homered. A few pitches prior he fouled one off and appeared to grimace in pain afterward. It stung his finger and it started to swell.

Roberts said that there’s a chance Betts could play defense for the Dodgers tonight if needed, but won’t hit.

Other news and notes

  • Corey Seager is back in the lineup today in the DH spot. If he feels alright tomorrow he could be back at shortstop.
  • Alex Wood is expected to pick up a baseball today or tomorrow. Wood says “It’s the best his arm has felt in weeks”. There’s no timeline as to when we can see Wood to the rotation. Roberts said the rotation will remain the way it is over the next week.
  • Walker Buehler starts for the Dodgers tonight. He’s not off the leash yet, according to Roberts. Expect him to be on another 5/75 count tonight.
