Joe Kelly threw a ball near Alex Bregman’s head on July 28, then taunted Carlos Correa, which started a benches-clearing incident between the Dodgers and Astros on July 28 at Minute Maid Park, the Dodgers’ first game back in Houston since details of the Astros’ sign stealing during the 2017 season and postseason were revealed.
Kelly was initially suspended eight games, which he appealed. Manager Dave Roberts was suspended one game, and Astros manager Dusty Baker was fined an undisclosed amount.
“This is something that’s been built up over the course of seven months,” manager Dave Roberts said after the incident. “I think it was unfortunate, but I guess to spin it, it’s a good thing that we got out of the way. Nobody was hurt and we can move on to play baseball.”
