Padres take opener for 8th straight win
The best two teams in the National League meet for a pivotal three-game series, with the Dodgers battling the Padres beginning Monday night at Petco Park in San Diego.
Clayton Kershaw and Dinelson Lamet dueled into the seventh, when the Padres broke open a 1-1 tie with a five-run inning buttressed by poor defense.
The win by the Padres reduced the Dodgers’ lead to 2½ games in the National League West.
