When you win an MVP, there are a lot of expectations on you for your follow-up campaign. For Cody Bellinger, things haven’t gone smoothly for him in 2020. However, over the course of the last few games, his bat has been the best it’s been all year. More importantly, he’s smiling more than ever and enjoying every second of it.

On Friday night, Bellinger had three hits and three RBI, including his 11th homer of the season. “It was nice to see results,” he said following the game. “I think in general I’m just having fun with it and continue to get ready for the playoffs.”

Over his last eight games, Bellinger is 10-for-31 as his average and OPS are slowly creeping back to where we’re used to seeing them.

“Really good to see Cody use all the field,” Dave Roberts said of his slugger. “It’s a huge night for him. To get results. I know he’s going to sleep well tonight. Over the last few days he’s been swinging the bat better. He’s been smiling and laughing. I believe when he’s like that, good things happen on the baseball field.”

The Dodgers have won five of their last six, and there’s no question Bellinger has played a huge role in that. Up to this point in the season, the Dodgers have been the best team in baseball by far. They’ve done that while having a struggling 2019 MVP for the most part. With the postseason just over a week away, Bellinger is picking the perfect time to start heating up.
