After injuring his right lat in the batting cages, Cody Bellinger is back in the starting lineup on Thursday night. He missed two total games.

After getting off to a slow start to begin the year, Bellinger has been heating up as of late. Over his last 10 games, the MVP is hitting .351/.455/.838/1.292 with five homers and 10 RBI. He also has three doubles and has scored seven runs.

It’s no coincidence that the Dodgers have gone on a big-time winning streak with Bellinger heating up at the plate. With how unstoppable LA’s offense has been all year, if they can get Bellinger’s 2019 type numbers back, it’s going to be an insanely tough offense to try and stop.

News and notes

  • Earlier today, Major League Baseball announced that Justin Turner was named the Dodger 2020 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, baseball’s most prestigious individual honor for Major Leaguers.

“Not a surprise,” Dave Roberts said when asked about it. “Well deserved. Him and Kourtney do amazing things in the community and are always serving. It’s remarkable how he can balance a major league baseball season and serve the community.”

  • Joe Kelly is coming to face hitters this weekend. He hasn’t pitched since August 8. Once Kelly is activated off the Injured List, he still has to serve his suspension.
  • Pedro Baez is going to throw another bullpen session today. He’ll face hitters Sunday or Monday then he’ll be available later in the week. The plan is to get both him and Kelly back by the end of next week
