Being nearly two weeks into Spring Training, there’s only a handful of players who have yet to make their Cactus League debut. On Friday, it looks like we could see two debuts from Dodgers players.
The first being catcher Keibert Ruiz, who showed up late to camp due to troubles with his Visa. He’s finally in camp and has been cleared, and is expected to come off the bench during today’s game.
This will be a huge spring for Ruiz, as he was just named LA’s top prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He’s in a difficult position, as there isn’t any room for him on the roster. However, as we’ve seen, injuries can happen at any time, so there’s a chance Ruiz can playa a big role this season for LA.
The next is right-handed pitcher, Kendall Williams. The 20-year-old was a second round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, who came over to LA as part of the Ross Stripling trade. He hasn’t seen any game action yet this spring, and for the first time he’s on the schedule to pitch.
He appeared in only six games of rookie ball in 2019, but was excellent. He struck out 19 in 16 innings and had an ERA of 1.13 and a WHIP of 0.81. According to Pipeline, he’s LA’s No. 25 prospect.
