The Dodgers and Pirates play an exceedingly early game on getaway day at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, but amazingly, Thursday’s 9:35 a.m. PT start is not the earliest scheduled start to a Dodgers game this season.
If the early start time doesn’t throw you off, finding the game broadcast just might! This game is exclusively on YouTube, which means no SportsNet LA broadcast and no Pirates home broadcast either. The MLB Network-produced broadcast will be solely on MLB’s YouTube channel:
Scott Braun will call the play-by-play from MLB Network studios in New Jersey, joined by analysts Jerry Hairston Jr. (from Dodger Stadium) and Sean Casey (from PNC Park). Reporter Jon Morosi will be on site in Pittsburgh as well.
The YouTube broadcast will start at 9 a.m. PT, about a half-hour before the game.
MLB partnered with YouTube to exclusively show a game of the week starting with the second half of the 2019 season. The Dodgers played three times on YouTube that season — the first-ever such YouTube game on July 18, a 7-6 loss in Philadelphia, then again on August 7, a 2-1 win over the Cardinals at home, followed by a 7-5 win over the Rays on September 17.
The Dodgers had no games on YouTube in 2020.
In about four weeks, the Dodgers have two games with earlier start times than Thursday’s game in Pittsburgh. They play the Nationals at 8:05 a.m. PT on Sunday, July 4, an Independence Day tradition in Washington D.C. since 2012. The next series in Miami ends on Thursday, July 8 with a 9:10 a.m. PT start against the Marlins on getaway day.
It’s a good month or so for breakfast and baseball.
