The Dodgers try for a sixth win in six tries against the Diamondbacks this season, with Walker Buehler on the mound on Saturday night at Chase Field, facing Matt Peacock for Arizona.
The Diamondbacks’ losing streak has hit 15 games, the longest losing streak for a team facing the Dodgers since the 1969 Montreal Expos. In their first year as an expansion team, the Expos lost 18 straight before losing the first two games of a series at Dodger Stadium, running Montreal’s streak to 20 games.
But on June 8, Rusty Staub and Mack Jones homered off Bill Singer to help the Expos build a 4-1 lead. The Dodgers rallied for two runs in the ninth inning, and even had the tying and winning runs in scoring position with only one out, but Roy Face got Ken Boyer to pop out to third base in foul territory, and Willie Crawford flew out to right to end the game, and stop the Expos skid.
Maury Wills walked twice, stole a base, and scored a run in the win for Montreal against his former, and future, team.
Arizona made a roster move before Saturday’s game, signing right-handed relief pitcher Jake Faria, who was released by the Angels on Wednesday. Infielder Ildemaro Vargas was designated for assignment to make roster room.
