Mookie Betts will miss a second straight game, on Monday against the Giants, scratched from the starting lineup with right hip irritation that’s plagued him all season, especially of late.

Betts is the Dodgers’ hottest hitter, with 12 hits in his last 16 at-bats, including three home runs and four doubles, scoring 12 runs in his last four games. He had four extra-base hits on Saturday in Colorado but left after limping into second base on his third double of the night.

The Dodgers originally had Betts in Monday’s starting lineup after sitting Sunday, but after pregame workouts Betts was scratched.

Zach Reks, who was called up earlier Monday when shortstop Gavin Lux was placed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, will now start in left field, with Matt Beaty moving over to right.

It’s been a busy day for Dodgers injury news. In addition to Lux hitting the shelf, pitcher Victor Gonzalez was activated from the injured list earlier Monday after missing nine games with plantar fasciitis.

Clayton Kershaw, who is expected to be out until sometime in August with left forearm inflammation, started his throwing program on the field at Dodger Stadium on Monday.

Corey Knebel, out since April with a lat strain, also threw a simulated inning on the mound at Dodger Stadium. That was an especially noteworthy matchup, because one of the batters he faced was Corey Seager, who has been out since May 15 with a broken bone in his hand.

The Dodgers have no plans for a rehab assignment for Seager, and if all goes well he could be activated later in the series against the Giants.

“[Seager] looked really good, he swung the bat well, ran the bases, took grounders, and played catch,” manager Dave Roberts said Monday. “I see potential activation sometime here in the short term. I don’t want to put a date on it exactly, but assuming he comes out of it well tomorrow, Wednesday could certainly be a possibility.”

San Francisco moves

The Giants were busy with the roster moves as well. Kevin Gausman was activated off the family medical emergency list and will start on the mound. He’ll throw to catcher Buster Posey, who was activated off the injured list after missing time with a thumb contusion.

Shortstop Brandon Crawford was placed on the injured list with a left oblique strain.

Infielder Jason Vosler was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. Catcher Chadwick Tromp and left-hander Caleb Baragar were optioned to Triple-A.
