With a rash of position player injuries, the Dodgers added infielder Sheldon Neuse to the roster before Tuesday’s game agains the Giants, to bolster the bench.

Mookie Betts is out of the lineup for a fourth straight game, dealing with hip irritation. He’s technically available to pinch hit on Wednesday, but the Dodgers would prefer to stay away from him, as they did on Tuesday, hoping the inflammation dies down.

An injured list stint for Betts hasn’t been ruled out.

“It is certainly a possibility. I didn’t think it was a few days ago. But once we get to a certain point, to backdate it three days, it’s a possibility,” manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday. “It’s not ideal, but the most important thing is getting Mookie back to 100 percent.”

Justin Turner is also out of Wednesday’s lineup after getting hit by a pitch and leaving with a left knee contusion on Tuesday. He’s more realistically available than Betts, with Turner’s day off a combination of getting hit by a pitch and getting some rest after starting the first five games out of the All-Star break.

Max Muncy, who also left Tuesday after getting hit by a pitch — in his right shoulder — is back in the lineup on Wednesday, starting at second base and batting second.

Corey Seager, who hit earlier Wednesday and participated in pregame drills, has not yet been activated.

“When I get the green light that we can activate him, that’s when I’m ready to pencil him in there,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers were also carrying 14 pitchers, so to make room for Neuse, pitcher Darien Núñez was optioned to Triple-A after throwing two innings and 26 pitches on Tuesday.

Neuse hit .172/.186/.345 (10-for-58) with the Dodgers earlier this season. Since getting optioned at the end of May, he hit .282/.363/.409 in 38 games with Oklahoma City.

Outfielder Billy McKinney, acquired by the Dodgers earlier Wednesday, is expected to join the team in Los Angeles on Thursday.
