The Dodgers’ game against the Mets on Sunday, August 15, was selected for ESPN ‘Sunday Night Baseball,’ moving the start time from 10:10 a.m. PT to 4:08 p.m. for the exclusive ESPN broadcast.
Matt Vasgersian will call play by play alongside analyst Alex Rodriguez, with reporter Buster Olney providing details during the game.
It’s the third of four scheduled Sunday night games on ESPN for the Dodgers this season. They lost to the Padres on April 25, and beat the Cubs on June 27. Both of those games were at Dodger Stadium. The next two ESPN Sunday games are on the road — August 15 at Citi Field, and September 5 against the Giants in San Francisco.
August 15 is the finale of a three-game weekend series against the Mets, currently in first place in the National League East. The Dodgers and Mets play seven times in a 10-day stretch, including a four-game series from August 19-22 in Los Angeles.
The Dodgers won’t be facing Mets ace Jacob deGrom — he of the 1.08 ERA and 45-percent strikeout rate in 92 innings this season — in any of those games, with more inflammation in his right arm after a bullpen session this week. From Anthony DiComo of MLB.com:
The Mets plan to shut deGrom down for two weeks before beginning his ramp-up process again. That will require at least another two weeks and possibly more, making September the best-case return target for deGrom.
The Dodgers are 13-7 against National League East teams this season, a record buoyed by winning all seven games against the Nationals.
